We have another Being There Experience next week!  On Thursday, December 6th we will be visiting the Royal Z Lanes bowling alley to go along with our current science unit on force and motion.  We plan to leave school at 10:00 and we will return to school by 12:00.  When we return to the school, we will eat our lunches in the classroom.

Please let me know if your child will need a bagged lunch from school or if he or she is bringing a lunchbox from home.  You may either respond to this email or send in a note.  I need to know as quickly as possible so I can let Ms. Dottie in the cafeteria know how many bagged lunches they will need to prepare.

Please have your child wear a blue shirt and tennis shoes on the day of the field trip, and make sure your child is here on time.

If you would like to chaperone on the trip, please meet us at the bowling alley at 10:15.  Since we are at a public place, we are not limited on the number of chaperones so all are welcome.  Please let me know if you plan to come so I have an idea of how many guests we will have.  You are welcome to watch and help out or play a round of bowling yourself.  (If you are going to bowl, then you will need to pay for your own lane/shoes.)

Homework:
There is currently no homework sheet.  Please encourage your child to read regularly.  The next homework sheet will go home on Thursday, November 29.

Military Deployment Status:
Mrs. Spangler, our guidance counselor, is creating a support group for students who may have a parent, grandparent, or sibling who is deployed overseas, or assigned to another part of the US, which takes them away from home for extended periods of time.  If your child fits this description and you would like him or her to be a part of this group, then please email me and let me know.

Second Quarter Changes:
For the first quarter, all classroom math and reading assessments were read orally to help students transition into testing and receiving academic grades for the first time.  Throughout the remainder of the year, these assessments will no longer be read aloud to students.  As students get use to this adjustment, you may see a slight drop in your child's test grades.  Please encourage your child to take his or her time, read each question carefully, and check back over his or her work before turning in each test.

Lexia:
A couple of weeks ago, our class was introduced to the idea of weekly Lexia goals.  Each student has two goals for the week: a time goal and a unit goal (puzzle pieces).  If a student is focused during the time he or she is on Lexia, then the unit goal should be met if the time goal is met.  Students know to "x out" and pick another category if they have a red apple, which means they need teacher help, and to see how close their green bar on the bottom is so they can quickly finish, if needed, before they logout.  Also, it is very important that a child not get help from others during a session.  Although I try to schedule adequate time during class for students to meet their weekly goal, some students could benefit from additional time at home to ensure all second grade language skills are mastered before third grade.  If your child is able to access Lexia at home, make sure you go through the Bookman Road media center website (http://jaharris6.wixsite.com/breslibrary) and click on Lexia.  You may need to enter my email address when logging in your child for the first time.
