Looking Ahead to the Week of September 24 (STEM Week)

Homework:
The homework packet issued Sept. 20 is due on Sept. 27.  Please change the due date on the top of this
form to reflect the change, due to the hurricane.  I included the wordlines we practice during class as part
of our language-building routine, so your child is able to practice reading the words aloud at home.  Also, I
attached a sheet with suggestions for creative ways to practice spelling at home. Spelling practice is a
requirement on each homework sheet, but the method your child uses to practice is up to him or her.

Math--Topic 2 Envisions (Please review the daily flyers each afternoon.  These will serve as our study
guide in preparation for our next math assessment.): We will be adding and subtracting within 100 to
solve a variety of problems.  We will review Topic 2 on Tuesday and take our assessment on Wednesday.

Topic 3 Envisions: This unit will focus on subtraction strategies from numbers up to 18.
ELA--In reading this week, we will continue discussing Family Farm.  I encourage parents to read the
story with your student at home during the week and answer/ discuss the questions at the end of the
story in the Treasures Textbook. Our ELA skills also include Author’s Purpose, Long I, Homophones and
Narrative Writing.

Unit of Study--We will begin to explore a magnets effect on different forms of matter. Students will also
research how magnets are used in “real world” machines and products.
